KIN-BREEDING: With half a dozen crops to race, the consecutive sequences of sires in the female lines of his dozen Gr1 winners show a startling variety when taken to five generations. Many of the background sire-names are relative unknowns, nationally and internationally.

There are stand-outs, though, linking to Buckpasser and dam Busanda, from Vercingetorix’ damsire National Assembly. Notable is Al Mufti, through his dam Lassie Dear (by Buckpasser). Busanda also comes through Complete Warrior and doubles up in Captain Al (Al Mufti x Complete Warrior). The pedigrees of Gr1 winners Astrix, Alesian Chief and Vernichy are instructive in this respect.

Another notable line appears to be Sadler’s Wells, with sons Fort Wood (whose female line kin-links to the one of Badger Land) and Casey Tibbs.

Further notable kin-links may emerge from future racing-crops of Vercingetorix, born 2022 and beyond.

Pedigree

The build-up of the female line of Oriental Charm contains a sequence of the most notable influences found in a host of Gr1 winners by his sire Vercingetorix.

Oriental Charm traces to Spring Adieu, half sister by Buckpasser to Northern Dancer. Spring Adieu is very close kin to National Assembly, damsire of Vercingetorix.

In Oriental Charm’s pedigree Spring Adieu was mated to Roberto to get You’re My Lady, who in make-up is very close kin to Al Mufti.

Golden Thatch was mated to You’re My Lady to get Daphne Donnelly, whose make-up makes her close kin to Sadler’s Wells. Daphne Donnelly became a regular mate for Fort Wood, son of Sadler’s Wells, which proved successful. In this context Daphne got Bay Tree from Fort Wood. She’s dam of SA Derby winner Bouquet-Garni, full brother to Oriental Charm’s grandam Tagine.

All this proved grist on the mill of Vercingetorix, suggesting that the highlighted kinships may well continue to be of importance for Oriental Charm’s offspring.

Suitable Lines

SUITABLE LINES for Oriental Charm could include

- mares with descendants of Dalmary and daughter Rough Shod, notably Golden Thatch (Goldmark), Sadler’s Wells (Fort Wood (Elusive Fort), Casey Tibbs, Nureyev, Ridan, etc.)
