The thrust of Hat Puntano’s pedigree may well come through his dam Stormy Pursuer, who is closely kinbred in a variety of ways. Her sire Bernstein is by Storm Cat, whose female line ancestor First Rose is kin to Busanda, who also is Bernstein’s 4th dam. First Rose already was in the kin breeding of Storm Cat, linking to Storm Bird’s 3rd dam Solar Display.

Hat Puntano’s dam Stormy Pursuer is by Egg Toss, by Busanda’s son Buckpasser. Egg Toss is kinbred through the female lines of his sire and dam, linking Busanda to his 3rd and 4th dam. They in turn link to First Rose and her dam. Interesting to note in this context (although unrelated in real terms) that the dam of Hat Trick’s best runner Dabirsim is by Royal Academy, who is half brother to the dam of Storm Cat and is close kin to Storm Cat.

Hat Puntano’s 3rd dam Pura India is closely kin-bred, through the female line of her sire Incaico, via stallions Rustom Pasha and a double of Diadochos.

Suitable Lines

Suitable lines for Hat Puntano could include:

• multiples of Busanda (who is a female line descendant of La Troienne), most likely though Buckpasser, who is widespread – notably through Northern Guest, Al Mufti (Captain Al etc.), National Assembly. Then there are descendants of First Rose, notably Storm Cat (widespread in SA, as in Windrush, Var, Tiger Ridge, Black Minnaloushe, Brave Tin Soldier, etc.), Royal Academy (Lavery, Tamburlaine, Ato, etc.), and former SA stallions Goldkeeper, Winter Romance.
• Also of interest must be multiples of the female line of Selene (her sons Hyperion, Sickle, Pharamond) and female line ancestors.
• Incaico, sire of Hat Puntano’s 3rd dam Pura India, is well represented in SA, notably through descendants of his grandam Indian Legend (many from Scott’s imports). Kin-linking through Rustom Pasha is possible through a variety of conduits in SA, interestingly through Hard Up (imported from Argentina) and Elysee (the in SA famous Argentine E-family).
